About the Role
As Engineering Director (Full Stack), you’ll oversee multiple cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring alignment between technology and business goals. You’ll collaborate with executive leadership, product teams, and engineering managers to drive innovation, cultivate a high-performance culture, and deliver operational excellence at scale.

Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement full-stack engineering strategy aligned with business goals.
- Lead and scale multiple engineering teams across front-end and back-end development.
- Oversee architecture for scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Advise executive leadership on technology trends and strategic investments.
- Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Own hiring, staffing, performance reviews, and talent development within engineering.
- Drive adoption of best practices in software development, security, and monitoring.
- Lead large-scale technical initiatives such as API gateway replacement, data archiving, and platform scalability.
- Balance technical debt management with innovation.
- Promote modern engineering practices to enhance developer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with product teams on prioritising technology initiatives.
- Mentor engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, primarily in full-stack development.
- 6+ years of engineering leadership experience, managing multiple teams or 50+ engineers.
- Proven experience with large-scale, distributed systems.
- Expertise in system architecture and design using Java 19, Spring Boot 3, REST APIs, and microservices.
- Front-end expertise with React and Next.js.
- Experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Strong alignment of business objectives with technical strategy.
- Excellent communication skills in English (Upper-Intermediate+).
- Experience with incident response, monitoring tools, and security practices.
- Successful track record of scaling engineering teams and delivering innovation.
- Strategic mindset with a focus on high-impact execution.

- Experience with Ebean ORM, Protobuf, and tools like Kibana, Grafana, Sentry, DataDog, PagerDuty.
