About the Role

As Engineering Director (Full Stack), you’ll oversee multiple cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring alignment between technology and business goals. You’ll collaborate with executive leadership, product teams, and engineering managers to drive innovation, cultivate a high-performance culture, and deliver operational excellence at scale.

This role suits a visionary leader who thrives on setting long-term tech strategy, optimising delivery, and mentoring senior technical leaders across the stack.

Key Responsibilities

Define and implement full-stack engineering strategy aligned with business goals.
Lead and scale multiple engineering teams across front-end and back-end development.
Oversee architecture for scalability, security, and maintainability.
Advise executive leadership on technology trends and strategic investments.
Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Own hiring, staffing, performance reviews, and talent development within engineering.
Drive adoption of best practices in software development, security, and monitoring.
Lead large-scale technical initiatives such as API gateway replacement, data archiving, and platform scalability.
Balance technical debt management with innovation.
Promote modern engineering practices to enhance developer productivity and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with product teams on prioritising technology initiatives.
Mentor engineering managers and senior technical leaders.

Required Qualifications

12+ years of experience in software engineering, primarily in full-stack development.
6+ years of engineering leadership experience, managing multiple teams or 50+ engineers.
Proven experience with large-scale, distributed systems.
Expertise in system architecture and design using Java 19, Spring Boot 3, REST APIs, and microservices.
Front-end expertise with React and Next.js.
Experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
Strong alignment of business objectives with technical strategy.
Excellent communication skills in English (Upper-Intermediate+).
Experience with incident response, monitoring tools, and security practices.
Successful track record of scaling engineering teams and delivering innovation.
Strategic mindset with a focus on high-impact execution.

Nice to Have

Experience with Ebean ORM, Protobuf, and tools like Kibana, Grafana, Sentry, DataDog, PagerDuty.
